Our Principal

Mr. Watters

A product of 12 years of Catholic elementary and secondary education, Mr. J.B. Watters began his career in education in Houston, Texas, teaching mathematics and technology in the inner city for nine years in Houston ISD. In 1996, he left teaching to spend 10 years in the educational technology business, ultimately returning to the classroom to teach special education and mathematics for the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD (Cy-Fair), also in the metro Houston area. After three years with Cy-Fair, he was promoted to the academic achievement specialist at a high school with nearly 4,000 students.

In 2006, Watters was called back to Catholic education, serving as principal of All Saints Central High School in Bay City, Michigan. Under his leadership at All Saints, the school received honorable mention from the Catholic High School Honor Roll; was named the number one Catholic school in Michigan on the 2008 MEAP test; consistently scored higher on the ACT and Michigan Merit Exam than any other school in the area; and had 100% of its 2008 senior class pursue post-secondary education. As a result of these accomplishments, the school was awarded the key to the city.

In December 2008, Watters relocated to Fredericksburg, Virginia, to serve as principal and assist in the formation of a young Saint Michael the Archangel High School. Since that time, the school has more than doubled the size of its student body, and received accreditation through SACS-CASI. The school is currently developing a “Culture of Life” curriculum which integrates the Catholic faith into every subject that is taught at the school.

Watters has developed virtual high school labs at both schools which allowed the students to experience classes that a small school would otherwise not be able to offer. These include Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, American Film Study, Psychology, and over 20 Advanced Placement courses.

Watters holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and Mathematics from Central Michigan University; he earned his Master’s degree in Education Administration from Sam Houston State University, and completed courses at the Brain and Learning Institute in Michigan. Currently, he is working toward his PhD in Education Leadership from Keiser University.
