Scrip is a term that means “substitute money.” When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials.
Here is what scrip looks like:
We purchase retail scrip through The Great Lakes Scrip Center (GLSC). GLSC acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from restaurants, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. St. John’s buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount, from two to fifteen percent or more, amounts to funds raised for the Martin P. Harris Scholarship Fund.
Appealing aspects of the Scrip program are that families do not spend “new money” and each family benefits directly in proportion to its level of participation in the program.
Scrip is popular because families don’t have to sell anything. St. John’s families produce revenue for by making regular household purchases they would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys, gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.

Scrip Ordering Reminders
Gas & Grocery Scrip - This scrip is kept in-stock for daily ordering. Fill out your pre-printed order envelope (a starter envelope is stapled to the
scrip info in your red parent packet folder), enclose your check and send it in with your student. Orders are filled and returned to you the same day.
(You will also receive a new order envelope for your next order). You can order Tuesday through Friday. Note: We are now stocking
Texas Roadhouse $25 cards! Just add Texas Roadhouse to the bottom of your scrip order.
GLSC Scrip
This scrip (Great Lakes Scrip Center [GLSC] retail scrip) is special ordered each Monday. Here's where you can shop over 500 nationally
known retailers. Online ordering is now available. To learn how, click the link above “How to order GLSC scrip online.” For the entire listing of
merchants, click on the link above for the merchant listing. You can read the usage guidelines for the scrip you wish to purchase and also print out
the entire merchant listing for your convenience. When you place your order online, print your order confirmation sheet and send that with your check
in an envelope marked "GLSC Scrip Order" (or yellow travel envelope if you have one - you will be issued one if you do not have one) and send it to
school with your child. Scrip orders sent in with your child will be filled and sent home on Tuesday through Friday. On-line orders must be placed by 10am on Monday. Your order confirmation and payment must be sent in on Tuesday.
Online orders are placed Mondays and sent home to you Thursday of that same week. NOTE: As of Oct. 5, 2011, we will only place orders every two weeks (due to the low volume of Shop With Scrip orders). During the month of November and
December, we will place an order every week for the Holiday season. Should the orders pick up, we will re-evaluate. Thank you for understanding.
