The St. John’s School MathCounts group is open to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who enjoy challenging math problems.
The group meets weekly after school from the early fall until February. The faculty advisor instructs the members in higher order
problem solving skills. The national MathCounts Handbook is used for Warm-up and Work-out problems. In January, a school competition
is held to determine the four members of an official team, and four individual competitors. The team and individuals will represent
St. John’s School at the Annual Southern Maryland MathCounts competition the first weekend
in February. Students who perform well at the local competition will advance on to the Maryland state competition in March.
MathCounts, under the direction of Mrs. Wichrowski meets after school weekly from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The club is open to students in grades 6-8.
MathCounts sponsors a team which represents our school each year in the MathCounts competition.
Congratulations to our MathCounts team and Coach Barney Feist. Team members are Jared Daye, Elizabeth Feist, Stephen Henkel and John Winslow. St. John's took third place in the regional competition and qualified to go to State in March.
